In a significant move against the illicit tobacco trade, Trading Standards officers in Oxfordshire seized 9,340 illegal cigarettes, 700g of counterfeit hand-rolling tobacco, and 180 non-compliant nicotine pouches during a series of raids.
The operation, conducted in Banbury, Kidlington, and Oxford, was part of Operation CeCe, a national effort to combat illegal tobacco sales. Specialist detection dogs helped officers uncover hidden contraband, revealing the extent of the problem.
With an estimated £5,000 street value, these illegal products pose serious risks to consumers and fund criminal networks. Councillor Dr. Nathan Ley emphasized the need for vigilance, urging the public to report any suspicious activity to help create a healthier, safer community.
As authorities continue their fight against counterfeit tobacco, the question remains: Are current regulations enough to stop this trade?
